What’s at Stake for PA Pastors?

New poll numbers show that, a year after the legalization of same-sex marriage in Pennsylvania, a record number of Pennsylvanians support gay marriage—up from 36 percent in 2011 to 51 percent last month.

The poll, conducted by Public Policy Polling, surveyed 799 registered voters in May, both over the phone and online. The survey also found that the percentage of those who oppose gay marriage has decreased from 52 percent to 41 percent.

Sam Rohrer, President of the Pennsylvania Pastors Network (PPN, www.papastors.net), says a very vocal minority is influencing Pennsylvanians and Americans across the country. And laws about the protection of biblical marriage will greatly affect pastors and churches—down to the freedoms they enjoy at their own pulpits and in their own pews.

“As the Supreme Court prepares to issue a landmark decision on whether to redefine marriage in America or leave the protection of marriage up to the states, we must ask ourselves why a very small number of people who identify as homosexual is influencing our thoughts, beliefs and even our laws,” said Rohrer, who is also president of the American Pastors Network (APN, www.AmericanPastorsNetwork.net). “God’s design for marriage has been unwavering and unchanging since the beginning of time—and it never will change—yet social trends are dictating our laws and foundational tenets and impacting our religious freedoms.”

In its 2013 National Health Interview Survey, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported that 96.6 percent of adults identified as straight, while just 1.6 percent identified as gay or lesbian, 0.7 percent identified as bisexual, and another 1.1 percent identified as “something else,” stated “I don’t know the answer” or refused to provide an answer.

“Based on these numbers,” Rohrer added, “something is very askew. Why is the entire country allowing the few to intimidate so many? It’s time to take a stand for truth—our freedoms and foundations are at stake.”

  1. My thoughts are: WHERE ARE THOSE WHO WILL STAND FOR THE TRUTH OF GOD’S WORD IN OUR DAY? The Word says the whole world is under the sway of the wicked one, but those who are truly on Christ Jesus declare: greater is HE that is within us then he that is in the world. May God truly pour out upon us strength, wisdom, anointing and a voice to remain true to HIM that is true to us! I have to admit it feels lonely out there. We really need each other!
All for His glory, Pastor Pam
